Lundin Petroleum is a listed company operating with the strictest standards of openness and company leadership in every country where we have operations.
As Chairman of the Board for Lundin Petroleum, I utterly reject the claims made in Dagsavisen’s article of Friday 11th January, in which Egbert Wesselink continues his campaign against us with the same unfounded allegations as previously put forward.
The Lundin family, as the largest stakeholders in Lundin Petroleum, puts its full support behind an open discussion of our company and how we manage our global operations. This is quite clear from the way in which we have always attempted to present as much information as possible from our entire business, both now and in the past, from the inception of Lundin Petroleum in 2001 and, prior to that, as Lundin Oil. Lundin Petroleum is a listed company operating with the strictest standards of openness and company leadership in every country where we have operations.
We strive every day to live up to these standards and are willing to listen to those who have opinions about us. I think, for example, Egbert Wesselink is fully entitled to express his points of view, which he has done on a number of occasions over several years. I was nevertheless shocked to see the way in which Dagsavisen allowed him to make claims against Lundin Petroleum of a criminal nature, claims which are utterly absurd.
On the basis of Egbert Wesselink’s previous claims, the Public Prosecutor in Sweden has launched a preliminary inquiry into the extent to which Swedish nationals, or citizens with links to Sweden, may be held responsible for alleged activities by the Sudanese authorities in the period from 1997 to 2003. Lundin Petroleum’s operations in Sudan between 2001 and 2003 have always been a matter of public record. We welcome the preliminary inquiry from the Public Prosecutor’s Office and give it our full cooperation. We are confident that the Public Prosecutor in Sweden will conclude that the allegations made against Lundin Petroleum are completely baseless.
I am proud over what Lundin Petroleum has achieved over recent years in building up a strongly European, independent oil company with a base in Norway. We operate on a long-term perspective in the oil business and are confident that our colleagues in Norway will continue to make world-class finds, prolonging the life of the Norwegian oil and gas industry.
We are open to any questions and will continue to maintain a constructive dialogue with all interested parties who wish to do so.
