South Sudan Envoy, US Diplomats Discuss CPA Contentious Issues

October 2, 2007 (CAIRO) — The Head of Southern Sudan government office in Cairo discussed in a meeting with US diplomats in Egypt the contentious issues in the implementation of Comprehensive peace Agreement.

 

Permena Makuet, the head of GoSS liaison office in Egypt met with Gregory LoGerfo and Aaron Berman, Second Secretaries, Office of Economic and Political Affairs, from the US Embassy in Egypt on September 30.

 

The two sides tackled rows over Abyei protocol, south-north boundary demarcation and delayed redeployment of Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) in the oil production areas which was supposed to be under the control of the Joint Integrated Units as stipulated in the peace agreement.

 

Besides that the American delegation was briefed about the process of census and upcoming general elections as well as 2011 referendum.

 

The two sides discussed also the predicament of the Sudanese communities in Egypt, bilateral relationship and the repatriation process.
