New first vice-president, finance minister, discuss Sudan’s economy

KHARTOUM, Aug 14, 2005 (Sudan Tribune) — Sudanese First Vice President Salva Kiir Mayardit received at his office at the Republican Palace Sunday Minister of Finance and National Economy Al-Zubair Ahmed Hassan, the official newsy agency SUNA reported.

 

The ministers briefed him on the general performance of the Sudanese economy in the previous years as well as objectives of the general budget for the year 2005.

 

The Minister said after the meeting that the First Vice President appreciated the economic performance and the tremendous efforts being exerted in the previous years, saying that the positive results would be a catalyst for the improvement of the economic performance in the peace era.

 

The Minister further explained that part of the instructions of the First Vice President is to take all measures with respect to the implementation of the peace agreement as well as boosting financial cooperation between the federal government and the government of the south as well as extending technical assistance to the government of the south.

 

The First Vice-President was also briefed on the criteria of calculating the share of the government of the south in oil and other national revenues besides the budget expectations in the coming months.
