Sudanese Ambassador Called In Railway Minister

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan : Jan 07 (PID) - The Ambassador of Republic of Sudan, His Excellency Mr. Daffa Alla Elhag Ali Osman on Thursday called on the Federal Minister for Railways Mian Shamim Hyder in his office and discussed with him the matters of mutual interest especially the rehabilitation of the Railways of Sudan.

Mr. Ali Osman told the Minister that Sudan was a colony of the British Empire till December 1947 and after attaining the freedom on 1st January 1948, every Government in power has been doing its best to revamp every system especially the rehabilitation and re-organization of Sudanese Railways. He said that at present meter gauge railway track is present which 5596 KM long. On this passenger trains runs with the speed of 40KM/hrs, which takes three days to cover this distance from South to North.

At present the Sudanese government planned to connect Khartoum with Kenya and south. Sudan is also connected with Egypt by rail. He also conveyed the invitation of Sudanese Transport Minister who desired that Pakistan must rehabilitate and re-organized the Railway in order to facilitate the masses as well for the prosperity of the region. Sudan has explored crude oil and rich in minerals like Uranium. It desires to run the trains with electricity and CNG.

The Railway Minister, Mian Shamim Hyder welcomed the Sudanese Ambassador and assured that government of Pakistan would extend every cooperation to the Government of Sudan for revamping its Railway system on modern line. He would undertake the official visit of Sudan after receiving the invitation from his counterpart. At the end of the meeting, the Minister thanked the Ambassador and presented him the crest of Pakistan Railways alongwith a gift. Mr. Shakil Durrani, Chairman/Secretary, Ministry of Railways and other high-ranking officials were also present in this meeting.
